“Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gismos. Photography is about photographers. A camera didn’t make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel.”
-Peter  Adams

Oh, hey there!

amity-7

I’m Amity Winter and the owner/photographer of Amity Photography!

As I sat down to write this little “about me” post, it really got me thinking about how we view each other. Without even realizing it, we develop our own thoughts and feelings about people we don’t know through their pictures. As I write this, I want to give you insight into who I am. But not just those silly ‘little known facts’, not just a picture of me, but an actual glimpse into me. When you choose me as your photographer, I don’t see you as just a client. I see you as a friend!
And I feel as friends, we should get to know each other a bit, I’ll go first. 😉

I was born and raised in good ole Evansville, Indiana by my wonderful Mother, Tracy. It’s always been me and her since the beginning, and I wouldn’t change that for the world. Since I was young I’ve always had a passion for the creative things in life (although I won’t deny my pop singer dreams! 😉 ). You could always find me doodling with pens, you remember the ones I’m talking about, the Gelly Roll ink pens that all the cool kids just HAD to have. I’ve always been a dreamer, and as I got older those dreams lead me to my first point & shoot camera. I know, I know.. not the best around but hey, I was only 13! Anyway, I learned that camera in and out and took it with me everywhere I went. Always wanting to capture the memories I was making. As I grew older, I saved up my money to buy my first ever DSLR. That baby was my pride and joy! I went around to all my family and friends asking if I could “practice” with my camera. I’ll admit, some of those photos were not the best. But, through all the learning, I found what made me truly happy- capturing those little moments that families will cherish for a lifetime! So, I just knew without a shadow of a doubt this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Because when you find something your passionate about, you can’t ignore it. You have to jump right in, and that’s what I did! I started building my business at the age of 18 and have been following that dream ever since.

Fast forward 8 years later, and my business is continuing to grow by leaps and bounds. I am truly thankful for where I am today, and for all the people who helped me grow along the way. I pray that I never take this life for granted, for what a beautiful life it is!

I have recently married the man of my dreams! He is my rock; my strength through the hard times and my absolute joy! I’m a better woman with him by my side.

When I’m not out photographing all the amazing families, babies, and seniors that I am lucky enough to meet, you can find me and my Husband setting off on the road to the next city to enjoy our favorite things: Music, Hockey and Baseball!

Through it all, my hope is that when you book me as your photographer, that you see me as a friend. Someone who will listen to what YOUR hopes and dreams are, and will trust me to capture those beautiful memories for you. Because when you book with me, you aren’t just getting a photographer…
you’re getting an experience,
you’re getting heirloom products to cherish forever,
and you’re getting a friend.

xo, Amity
